Clubs

KSET Alternative club & excellent concert venue in Zagreb. Tickets at reasonable price, cheap beer and friendly crowd. Sadly, events & concert promotion is virtually non-existent, so you'll probably miss some great concerts because main promoter there believes only in few posters on public places.

MOCHVARA Alternative club & concert venue in Zagreb. Site always updated, promoters informed, crowd mixed and usually friendly. In the recent years range of music presented there is wider and more diverse, opposed to HC & punk beginnings. This resulted in more people freqenting the club.

SKWHAT The Sisak's centre of underground resistance & non-commercial youth culture. Club events, concerts, festivals and a forum.

MAMA Zagreb's first net.culture club; home of [borderline_cinema] live screenings & former [borderline_music] web host. You've got to love them!

AQUARIUS Club & label, formerly popular among minimal techno crowd, now into hip-hop and everything with everything on it. Some interesting programs like Soba 23 might happen. Desperately trying to revive itself, expensive, out of the city centre club route.

CHANNEL ZERO Ljubljana's most interesting club; placed in Metelkova zone.

Shops

BOOMKAT A specialist music website/store and huge resource of information and opinion about music that exists beyond the radar. Covers the most underground forms of electronic music.

JUNO Excellent vinyl & CD store with up-to-date online catalogue stating what they really got. Reasonable prices & fast delivery but sadly small offer on DJ equipment and vinyl care products. They have 'no invoice in the package' option which is usefull for countries like Croatia and its greedy tax & custom fees politics.

CLONE SHOP Label store offering much more in rare vinyl and CD's. Speciality is disco, electro & italo. Superb and friendly service!

FREEBIRD Zagreb based second hand vinyl & CD store, used classics at reasonable prices and a very nice stuff & service. You can find there some real vinyl surprises (like Ultra Red!) or even pre-vinyl bakelite records. Also check out ROXY and KARMA.

TROLIK Best record store & distributor in Croatia, run by one & only Dinko Bazadona. ere You can find some extremely rare CD and vinyl releases from Coil, Death In June, Psychic TV, selected electro, experimental or just plain weird music. Go to Planet Music Shop link and test their mailorder.

FORCED EXPOSURE Great record store, features rare and hard-to-find releases. Hrvatski works for them! Cool newsletter with reviews also.

HARD TO FIND RECORDS Abnoxious and arrogant vinyl store that treats customers from these parts of Europe like criminals. They ask amounts of paper proof about address and credit card, do not deduct VAT for non-EU orders, charge offensive shipment rates and over-price stuff they sell. You have been warned, avoid this store like a plague! There are better places to spend your money on vinyl.

VINYLWERK Get your record pressed at Juraj Stumberger's vinyl factory (only one in Croatia!) and listen to his musical projects Liquid Level, Malfunction & Recent Reason covering dub techno, electro and dark ambient/experimental soundscapes.

[borderline_music] and its host Konrad Medvedov present music that is no slave to a genre or an expectation of any kind. The show is oldschool-style radio mix sound collage of handpicked tunes joined with movies' audio and FX.

[web_stream] The show is available on the web via live stream, check it out here on Fridays night.

[podcast] Check show's Soundcloud page. Only the last show is podcasted due to the restrictions of SC free account.

Why Borderline?

"The point is that the best records are always borderline."

Ivan Smagghe in the booklet notes of "Ivan Smagghe Presents Death Disco" (Eskimo Recordings, 2003.)

[borderline_music] is twin project of the concept of BORDERLINE CINEMA. Yes, rare & weird too, but for movies. The first show aired January 26th, 2003., with the main idea of playing music that is considered too weird for daily airplay. All genres are included, some more and some less, depending on the feel and moment. First years were more on the experimental sounds, than clicks & cuts took over, fighting with IDM & funny and agressive breakcore.

[borderline_music] digs deep in weird disco vaults, abandoned mutant pop or just stomping electro and minimal wave all mixed up with EBM or rave, nu or old. You won't here it elsewhere, at least in this free style 'anything goes' combination. Custom mark of the show are movie samples spread all over, filtered, chopped and mixed in for your listening pleasure.
